MOSCOW – Magadanmorneftegaz and Lisyanskmorneftegaz (joint ventures between Rosneft and Statoil) have contracted China Oilfield Services Ltd. (COSL) to drill two exploration wells offshore northeast Russia in 2016.

The wells will be drilled in the Magadan-1 and Lisyansky areas, respectively 100 km (62 mi) and 90 km (56 mi) offshore in the Sea of Okhotsk, south of the Arctic Circle, using COSL’ s semisubmersible Nanhai-9. Water depths are below 150 m (492 ft).

In 2012, Rosneft and Statoil signed a cooperation agreement to jointly explore areas of the Russian shelf, with Rosneft also participating in exploration offshore Norway.

This involved establishing joint ventures and conducting various exploration programs, including 2D and 3D seismic and geotechnical surveys.
