Petrobras proves more oil in presalt Carcará structure

Offshore staff

RIO DE JANEIROPetrobras’ third well in the presalt Santos basin Carcará area (block BM-S-8) has confirmed the presence of light oil.

The Carcará Northwest well was drilled 5.5 km (3.4 mi) northwest of the original discovery (4-SPS-86B) in 2,024 m (6,640 ft) of water, around 226 km (140 mi) offshore São Paulo state.

It encountered 31º API oil in good-quality carbonate reservoirs just below the salt layer at a depth of 5,870 m (19,258 ft). The well intersected a 318-m (1,043-ft) oil column and has not reached the oil/water contact.

Pressure data show that the find is in the same accumulation of the two previous wells in the area, confirming the westward extension of the discovery.

Under the Discovery Evaluation Plan, due to be completed by March 2018, formation testing will begin soon to determine presalt productivity of the recently completed well 3-SPS-105.
