OE 2015: Sonomatic to unveil ultrasonic inspection technique

ABERDEEN, UK – Sonomatic will introduce dynamic response spectroscopy (DRS) at this year’s Offshore Europe.

DRS is an ultrasonic inspection technique for corrosion mapping through challenging coatings where conventional UT is ineffective. A custom DRS system, designed and developed by the company, excites the steel with a range of low ultrasonic frequencies that pass through challenging coatings. The steel responds, vibrating at natural frequencies related to the local thicknesses. Using advanced signal processing algorithms, these frequencies are extracted and used to determine the steel thickness profile.

According to Sonomatic, when used with its topsides and subsea deployment tools, Nautilus and ROV-iT, corrosion mapping is possible on previously uninspectable assets.

The company will also highlight its new internal caisson tool.
