OE 2015: Darcy features use of hydraulic screens for sand control

Offshore staff

ABERDEEN, UK – Darcy has announced at Offshore Europe 2015 a second North Sea installation of new sand control technology using hydraulic screens.

Darcy has said the alternative to gravel packing provides “pump free” sand control with efficiency and reduced time and cost through simplified logistics, and through hydraulic technology that can be activated from the surface.

Darcy’s first installation of the new technology was for Statoil at the Statfjord field in the North Sea.

The hydraulic screen is suited to deepwater regions, mature fields, and HP/HT wells, said Steve Bruce, CEO of Darcy. He added that positive wellbore support prevents mobilization of sand, shale and coal, while providing mechanical strength and collapse resistance for high geo-mechanical loads and extreme production conditions.

It also offers selective production, injection, and shutoff without the need for specialist pumping crews or additional downhole tools. It can be integrated with standard completions equipment.
