KNPC engages trio for Zour refinery offshore work

SAN DONATO MILANESE, Italy – Kuwait National Petroleum Corp. (KNPC) has contracted a multi-national joint venture to provide offshore facilities related to its Al-Zour New Refinery Project (NRP), 90 km (56 mi) south of Kuwait City.

All the work should be completed by the second half of 2019. The value of this order to Saipem is $1.3 billion.

Saipem, in tandem with Hyundai Engineering & Construction and SK Engineering & Construction, is responsible for the offshore maritime export facilities.

Workscope includes engineering, procurement, construction, pre-commissioning, and assistance during commissioning/start-up/performance testing for a solids pier; sulfur pelletizing/conveying; subsea outfall lines; a construction dock; an offshore sea island; and a small boat harbor.

This will be one of the world’s largest largest oil refinieries with output capacity of 615,000 b/d.

It will use conventional and proprietary licensed hydro-processing technologies to convert light and heavy crudes into low sulfur fuel oil and lighter products.
