Speedcast to ensure broadband connections on GMS barge fleet

Offshore staff

ABU DHABI, UAEGulf Marine Service (GMS) has awarded SpeedCast International a multi-year contract for its new dual-beam Ku-band satellite service.

This will provide broadband connectivity for client office applications and voice services across GMS’ nine self-propelled, self-elevating accommodation jackup barges.

These work on various offshore fields, some in harsh weather conditions, and therefore need a reliable connection between the vessels and the land-based operations, SpeedCast says.

Initially the company will deliver MBR 2048/512 CIR 512/256 links for each vessel, with the potential to upgrade depending on the client’s requirements. Main support will come from the company’s complex in Dubai.
