Second Cat D rig prepares to sail to Norway

LIMASSOL, Cyprus – Songa Offshore has taken delivery of its second Category D semisubmersible rig from Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering in South Korea.

Songa Endurance will soon depart for Norway, where it has an eight-year drilling contract for Statoil. Its first assignment will be on the Troll field in the North Sea.

The voyage will take place with tow-assist and the rig should arrive with all third-party equipment installed and ready for final acceptance testing. Drilling should start around year-end.

Songa Endurance is a sixth-generation, harsh environment DP-3 rig designed for year-round drilling, completion, testing, and intervention operations in water depths up to 500 m (1,640 ft).
