Petrex surveys integrity of North Sea Athena risers, moorings

ABERDEEN, UK Petrex Developments has completed inspection of the Athena FPSO’s dynamic flexible riser/umbilical systems, mooring system, and hull in the UK central North Sea for operator Ithaca Energy.

The BW Athena’s flexible riser system comprises three flexible risers, two dynamic umbilicals, a mid-water arch (MWA) with associated tethers and an MWA base.

Petrex’s work scope included general visual inspection, close visual inspection and taking cathodic protection measurements of the riser system and ancillary equipment.

It performed similar tasks on the nine leg mooring system, suction anchor, mooring chain, ball grab assembly, wire sections and STP buoy connectors, along with a full hull survey.
