SYDNEY, Australia – Otto Energy has started drilling the Hawkeye-1 exploration well in the Palawan basin off the Philippines.

The operator said the 36-in. conductor had been run to 1,906 m (6,253 ft) and the 26-in. hole subsequently drilled to 2,449 m (8,035 ft). Current operations involve cementing the 20-in. casing string.

Otto Energy said the next step will be to connect the BOP to the wellhead, and pressure test before starting to drill the 17½-in. hole to just above the primary target reservoir.

The well is being drilled by the Maersk Venturer drillship.
