Lamprell implements efficiency measures at UAE yards

SHARJAH, UAE -- Lamprell is investing in automation for some fabrication facilities at its yards in the UAE.

Over the past few months new fabrication areas, cutting machines and a beam fabrication system have all been installed to increase the level of automation and reduce construction times.

Early last month a new panel line was launched at the Hamriyah facility and work continues to connect the facility to the ring main by early 2016. Currently the yard has to generate its own electricity so this should reduce its power costs.

During the first half of this year Lamprell delivered three newly built jackup drilling rigs.

Seven more at Hamriyah were in the relatively early stages of construction, including three jackups for Abu Dhabi’s National Drilling Company.

Lamprell adds that demand for rig refurbishment has decreased in recent months, with some clients stacking jackups until market conditions, and the company is assisting this activity.

It currently has six rigs stacked at its facilities in Sharjah and Hamriyah.
