Gazprom gets go-ahead for 3D seismic in Sea of Okhotsk

NOGLIKI, Russia – Gazprom Geologorazvedka has gotten public approval for plans to conduct 3D seismic data acquisition in the Sea of Okhotsk offshore Sakhalin.

The company held a meeting at the Nogliki settlement to explain the process and the environmental considerations.

Gazprom Geologorazvedka said it plans to use soft start technology to allow fauna to migrate from the activity area. Another environmental technology to be applied is zero discharge which envisages exporting all operational waste and effluents to shore for disposal. Continuous environmental monitoring also is planned for all stages of operations said the survey company.

Gazprom Geologorazvedka operates in three license blocks offshore the Sakhalin Island: the Kirinsky prospect, including the Yuzhno-Kirinskoye field as well as the Vostochno-Odoptinsky and Ayashsky blocks.

In 2014 Gazprom Geologorazvedka completed 1,200 sq km (463 sq mi) of 3D seismic surveys in the Sea of Okhotsk.
