CGG upgrades Norway offshore database

PARIS, France -- CGG says its Akon E&P data management solution is now operational for users of the seismic, well and production modules in Norway’s Diskos database, the country’s National Data Repository.

The system is said to provide new features and tools to facilitate faster and more intuitive data management – the Diskos mature Norwegian shelf database includes over 1 petabyte of rich data assets.

According to CGG, the Akon solution also provides a more integrated and cost-effective approach to storing and distributing large volumes of data than was possible with the previous system.

Akon, based on an open database model (PPDM), is hosted in the Green Mountain data center operated by Evry. Its user interface for data submission, browsing, selection and request is based on the Whereoil software platform designed by Kadme.

CGG was awarded the Diskos data management contract in December 2013, and last year its team implemented the solution, migrating all data from the three modules from a proprietary to a PPDM public, integrated and open logical data model.

All work was conducted under the supervision of the Diskos committee representatives and the Norwegian Petroleum Directorate.
