Al Shaheen well campaign passes halfway mark

COPENHAGEN, Denmark - The current development of the Al Shaheen field offshore Qatar is progressing as planned, according to operator Maersk Oil, with the 50-well program more than half way complete.

Earlier this year, Qatar Petroleum (QP) initiated an evaluation process for the selection of a partner to undertake future development of Al Shaheen, with Maersk’s current agreement due to expire in mid- 2017. The outcome of the tender process is expected during 2H 2016

Last year, around 40% of Maersk Oil's global production came from the field. The company says it is confident it can offer the state of Qatar a competitive and reliable proposition for the future phases, based on its extensive knowledge of this complex field during decades in partnership with QP.

Offshore Angola, progress on Maersk’s Chissonga project is being hampered by the low oil price. The company is in negotiations with the Angolan authorities, partners and contractors to find ways of making the development viable.
