Software helps cut offshore Norway well P&A time

STAVANGER, Norway – eDrilling says it has worked with Wintershall and Maersk Training to improve planning and optimize drilling for an exploration well in the Norwegian Sea.

The information gathered using the company’s in wellPlanner and wellAdvisor software helped decision making during construction of well 6406/2-8 and assisted P&A operations.

Up to 25% of time on offset wells in this area has been spent on P&A, eDrilling claims, whereas the percentage for this well was 12%.

This was a vertical exploration well in the Haltenbanken region on the Imsa prospect, drilled by the semisubmersible Transocean Arctic. The Live Well Support service started on Feb. 4, initially for the test and tune phase in order to verify model simulations for further drilling operations.

Thereafter hydraulic-simulations, risk analyses, and 3D visualization of the wellbore were conducted daily. eDrilling and Maersk Training representatives participated in the operational meetings to advise and support the exploration department.
