Heydar Aliyev drilling program extended at Shah Deniz

LYNGBY, Denmark – BP Exploration has extended Maersk Drilling’s contract for the semisubmersible Heydar Aliyev by a further five years until May 2021.

The rig is drilling development wells on the Shah Deniz field in the Caspian Sea offshore Azerbaijan. Estimated value of the extension is up to $523 million.

Heydar Aliyev (ex-Maersk Explorer), delivered in 2003 is designed for year-round operations in water depths ranging from 40-1,000 m (147-3,280 ft).
