PEMEX fighting fire at Abkatun platform in GoM

CIUDAD DEL CARMEN, Mexico – PEMEX's Emergency Response Plan implementation is in effect following a fire on the permanent Abkatun platform in the Bay of Campeche offshore in the Gulf of Mexico.

Eight firefighting vessels were sent to fight the fire that PEMEX said began in the dehydration and pumping area of the platform yesterday.

At last report, one Cotemar worker was dead and 16 other workers from PEMEX and other companies were injured. All are being treated at PEMEX's General Hospital in CIudad del Carmen and at the Mexican Institute of Social Security. About 300 other workers were evacuated.
