Gippsland basin JV agrees to further gas sale

Offshore staff

MELBOURNE, Australia – Esso Australia and partner BHP Billiton Petroleum (Bass Strait) have completed an agreement to sell natural gas to AGL Energy.

They will supply up to 198 petajoules of gas from the Gippsland basin joint venture fields offshore southeast Australia over three years from January 2018.

ExxonMobil Australia chairman Richard Owen pointed out that recent developments in the Bass Strait were helping meet future gas demand on Australia’s east coast.

“The Kipper Tuna Turrum project is the largest domestic gas development on the eastern seaboard. Production from this project is helping maintain current gas production levels from Bass Strait, which has been producing for nearly 45 years.”
