Ceona, Seaweld form deepwater Ghana venture

LONDON – Subsea contractor Ceona has entered into a joint venture (JV) with Takoradi-based Seaweld Engineering, targeting deepwater construction projects offshore Ghana.

The duo has worked together since late 2014. Ghana’s Petroleum Commission officially registered the JV last month. Ceona has opened an office in Accra and is acquiring yard space in Takoradi.

Seaweld, founded in 1979, is a specialist in steel fabrication for the oil and gas industry. It has more than 20 years of experience working on field developments off West Africa and elsewhere.

Ceona’s new flagship construction vessel Amazon is nearing completion at Huisman’s yard in Schiedam, the Netherlands. The vessel, designed specifically for deepwater markets including West Africa, can work in multiple pipelay/operational modes, and is equipped to change from rigid to flexible pipelay within a week.

It is also designed to operate independent of spool bases. Ceona points out that in Ghana, spooling operations can necessitate long transit arrangements and increased costs.

After the vessel’s firing line has been fitted it will head to the US Gulf of Mexico for its first rigid pipelay project later this year for Walter Oil & Gas.
