MELBOURNE, Australia – Production has started from the Maari MR6A development well in the Taranaki basin offshore New Zealand.
The initial rate is around 7,800 b/d of oil. According to partner Cue Energy, the optimal rate will be determined after several weeks of production.
Currently the Maari field is producing roughly 14,000 b/d.
The latest well is in the previously undeveloped Mangahewa formation reservoir unit. It was drilled horizontally to a TD of 4,577 m (15,016 ft) of which around 1,300 m (4,265 ft) was completed in high net-to-gross, good-quality reservoir section, based on well log data.
Analysis to date suggests the well might exceed pre-drill expectations.
OMV’s Maari Growth Project is targeting remaining undeveloped reserves from the Maari and Manaia accumulations. The Ensco 107 rig is drilling the MR7A well to provide an additional in-fill producer in the Moki formation.
