GORINCHEM, the Netherlands – Maaskant Shipyards has delivered two custom winches to Fugro for installation on the deepwater drilling vessel MV Bucentaur in April.

Classified by DNV GL, one winch is a constant tension winch with an own weight of 2,000 kg (5,358 lb) and the other is a drilling winch with an own weight of 3,500 kg (9,377 lb).

The Dutch shipyard was responsible for the design, engineering, and manufacturing of the two winches from its base in Stellendam, the Netherlands. Maaskant also worked closely with Bosch Rexroth, which delivered the hydraulic drive system.

The drilling winch – type M1-H2-135 – has a storage capacity of 230 m (755 ft) of steel wire with a diameter of 26 mm (1 in.). It has a hauling and holding force of 13.5 metric tons (14.88 tons) that can be adjusted up to 18.5 metric tons (210.4 tons), which is available on all layers of the wire. The range of hauling and veering speed is from 26 m/min. up to 136 m/min (85 to 446 ft/min).

The hard tie winch – type M1-H1-60 – has a drum storage capacity of 40 m (131 ft) of steel wire with a diameter of 22 mm (0.86 in.).
