JIANGSU, China
– The new shipyard facility of Honghua Offshore Oil & Gas Equipment Co. in Jiangsu, China, has launched its first ship, an IMT982 platform supply vessel (PSV) named Nordic Trym. The vessel was launched in a unique way, using the yard’s new gantry crane.

At a safe working load (SWL) of 22,000 metric tons (24,250 tons), the Honghai crane is the largest moving gantry crane in the world. The vessel launch was the first time that the giant crane has been used.

The 83.2-m-long (273-ft-long) vessel, designed by Offshore Ship Designers UK arm OSD-IMT Ltd., has a deck area of 900 sq m (9,688 sq ft) and a maximum deadweight of about 3,900 metric tons (4,299 tons) at a draught of 5.95 m (20 ft).

The Nordic Trym is classed with Lloyds Register and is fitted with a DP2 system. The vessel is expected to be delivered to its new owners, Nordic Offshore Supply Ltd., in April 2015.
