OSLO, Norway -- BG Norge has approval from Petroleum Safety Authority (PSA) Norway for exploration drilling in the Jordbaer area of the North Sea.

The semisub Transocean Searcher will drill well 34/3-5 on the Jordbær Sør prospect in 403 m (1,322 ft) of water in production license PL 373 in the Tampen area. Drilling should last for 66 days.

PSA has also authorized Det norske oljeselskap to use the semisub Transocean Winner for production drilling on the Alvheim field. Det norske recently assumed operatorship following a transaction with Marathon Oil.

Alvheim is an oil and gas field in blocks 24/6 and 25/4 in the central Norwegian North Sea, west of Heimdal and close to the boundary with UK waters. Production on the field started in 2008 through an FPSO with subsea wells.

Oil is stored onboard and exported by tanker, while the gas is send through a pipeline that connects to a trunkline system on the UK shelf.

Transocean Winner is scheduled to drill two new subsea production wells, 24/6 K-6 and 24/6 A-5. The consent additionally covers a workover of production well 24/6 B-2.

Water depth in the area is 120-130 m (393-426 ft). Drilling should start in February, with activities for the first well expected to last 139 days.
