EDINBURGH, UKCairn Energy plc and its joint venture partners have completed operations on the SNE-1 well in Senegal, and plans are now under way to appraise the discovery next year.

Having discovered oil in the upper clastic target, no hydrocarbons were encountered in the deeper target of karstified and fractured Lower Cretaceous shelf carbonates. Following completion of logging operations, the well will be P&A’d.

The SNE-1 well, located in 1,100 m (3,609 ft) water depth and 100 km (62 mi) offshore in the Sangomar Offshore block, was drilled to a total depth of 3,000 m (9,843 ft).

Cairn has a 40% working interest (WI) in three blocks offshore Senegal (Sangomar Deep, Sangomar Offshore, and Rufisque); ConocoPhillips has 35% WI; FAR Ltd. has 15% WI; and Petrosen, the national oil company of Senegal, has 10%. The three blocks cover 7,490 sq km (2,892 sq mi).
