Hurricane receives more time for Shetland offshore program

GODALMING, UK – Britain’s government has extended two licenses west of Shetland held by Hurricane Energy.

P1485 and P1835, containing the Typhoon and Tempest basement prospects, now run through to Dec. 31, 2016, and Jan. 9, 2017, respectively.

Typhoon, in blocks 204//22a, 204/23c 204/27a and 204/28a, around 30 km (18.6 mi) west of Hurricane’s basement Lancaster oil discovery, also offers potential in overlying Jurassic sandstones. Exploration drilling during the 1980s led to heavy oil discoveries in both the basement and the Jurassic sandstones, while a subsequent well deep on the flank of the structure encountered oil in the basement  indicative of a light oil charge.

Hurricane believes significant volumes of lighter oil could be present deeper within the prospect as a flank accumulation. Its 2011 competent persons report estimates P50 prospective resources of 149 MMboe for Typhoon and 1,266 MMboe for the P10 volume.
