Halliburton, Baker Hughes talk merger

HOUSTON – Baker Hughes Inc. (NYSE: BHI) has confirmed reports that it is in preliminary discussions with Halliburton Co. (NYSE:HAL) regarding a potential business combination transaction.  Baker Hughes says these discussions may or may not lead to any transaction, and that it does not intend to comment further on market speculation or disclose any developments unless and until it is appropriate or required.

If an agreement is reached, the transaction still would require approval from regulators.

A Wall St. Journal report of the negotiations notes that Halliburton’s market value is $45.2 billion while Baker Hughes’ market capitalization is $21.6 billion.
