BSEE responds to GoM rig explosion

NEW ORLEANS – One person is killed and three others injured following an explosion on a platform in the Gulf of Mexico. The Bureau of Safety and Environmental Enforcement (BSEE) is responding to the incident on Fieldwood Energy’s Echo platform yesterday afternoon.

Fieldwood says the injured are being treated at an onshore medical facilitiy. The operator also reports that the platform was not in production at the time, damage is limited to the explosion area, and there is no pollution.

BSEE is coordinating with the US Coast Guard and will investigate the incident.
