GODALMING, UK – The semisubmersible Transocean Sedco 712 has drilled a 1-km (0.6-mi) horizontal section through the fractured basement of the Lancaster oil field west of Shetland.

A well test will now follow, according to operator Hurricane Energy.

CEO Dr. Robert Trice said he was encouraged by data to date from the appraisal well, which indicates that the target fault zones are present and that the encountered section is fractured and oil-bearing.
