OSLO, Norway – Kvaerner says work is progressing on the gravity-based structure (GBS) for ExxonMobil’s Hebron project offshore Newfoundland and Labrador.
Aside from engineering and construction at the Bull Arm fabrication yard in St John’s, mechanical outfitting installation activity is under way along with preparations for the next phase. Construction at the deepwater site is due to start this summer.
Assembly and commissioning work is nearing completion on the topside for ConocoPhillips Skandinavia’s Eldfisk topside, with sail-away scheduled later this month. The yard will then focus on the topside for Lundin Norway’s Edvard Grieg platform.
Kvaerner’s Verdal yard currently has no new jacket orders, and will likely have surplus capacity from summer onward.
However, front-end engineering design studies are under way for new development projects offshore Norway and elsewhere which will likely be tendered from late 2014, with other opportunities for completion and hookup projects.
