CSnet, Radius sign East Mediterranean offshore telecoms agreement

MELBOURNE BEACH, Florida – CSnet International has a service level agreement with Radius Oceanic Communications concerning a new telecommunications project in the eastern Mediterranean Sea.

This involves connecting CSnet’s existing Offshore Communications Backbone (OCB) to Radius’ POSEIDON, a high-capacity subsea cable system that will provide telecommunications facilities to the offshore oil and gas industry in the eastern Mediterranean.

The OCB is a modular seafloor communications network deployed in 2,000 m (6,562 ft) water depths, and directly connected to the Internet. Clients can provide and control their own sensors and data outputs, or CSnet can supply sensors from the surface to the seafloor with data forwarded directly to the client’s onshore facilities.

POSEIDON will extend for about 800 km (2,624 mi) from two shore landings in Cyprus, with the OCB creating a self-healing ring that borders the Cypriot EEZ, and encompassing the offshore oil and gas lease blocks established for development by the government.

Radius will offer managed broadband services on a subscriber basis to offshore exploration, production, and support facilities.
