Pacific Drilling’s ultra-deepwater drillship Pacific Khamsin begins contract off Nigeria

LUXEMBOURG – Pacific Drilling’s ultra-deepwater drillship Pacific Khamsin received its drilling permit and began work on its drilling contract on Dec. 17.

The drillship was delivered in August 2013 from Samsung Heavy Industries in South Korea. The rig will work for Chevron in Nigeria under a two-year contract.

The Pacific Khamsin was built to a Samsung 12000 design and can operate in water depths to 12,000 ft (3,658 m). It is equipped for drilling depths of 35,000 ft (10,668 m) to 40,000 ft (12,192 m).
