Rolls-Royce wins Petrobras contract for energy services

Offshore staff

LONDON Rolls-Royce has been awarded a $138 million services contract by Petrobras to support its oil production activities offshore Brazil. Rolls-Royce will supply Petrobras with maintenance and repair services for 15 Rolls-Royce RB211-G62 gas-turbine power-generation units installed on four Petrobras oil platforms operating in the presalt lat.

The four Petrobras platforms, which together can produce over 500,000 b/d of oil per day, or 25% of Brazil’s entire output, rely on Rolls-Royce-generated power to maintain a consistently high production output. The contract is worth up to $220 million over its five-year renewal period.

More than 50 Rolls-Royce engineers and technicians are working on the project, and the Rolls-Royce Energy workshop at Macaé, Brazil, supports their work. In 2014, Rolls-Royce will inaugurate a new $100 million purpose-built gas turbine package, assembly and test facility in Santa Cruz in the state of Rio de Janeiro, further strengthening Rolls-Royce’s in-country manufacturing and services presence.
