Seadrill contracts two more high-spec jackup drilling rigs

HAMILTON, Bermuda – Seadrill Ltd. (XOSL:SDRL) has contracted Dalian Shipbuilding Industry Offshore Co. Ltd. of China to construct two high-specification jackup drilling rigs. One is scheduled for delivery in 4Q 2015 and the other in 1Q 2016.

The total price per rig is $230 million, including project management, drilling and handling tools, spares, and operations preparation.

The two new units will be based on the F&G JU2000E design, with water depth capacity of 400 ft (122 m) and drilling depth of 30,000 ft (9,144 m). Seadrill now has eight jackups under construction at DSIC Offshore, with two scheduled for delivery in 2013, five in 2015, and one in 2016.

Samsung is constructing two ultra-deepwater drillships in South Korea for delivery to Seadrill in 4Q 2014 and 1Q 2015.
