OSLO, Norway – Petroleum Safety Authority Norway (PSA) will investigate a hydrocarbon leak that occurred on Monday at the Oseberg A platform in the northern Norwegian North Sea.
The leak was in the M03 main deck area on the process and living quarter platform, operated by Statoil. PSA does not have information on the leak volume or flow rate.
Statoil activated emergency shutdown systems, shut down production, and depressurized the facility. There were 308 people on the platform when the leak occurred, but no one was injured.
A PSA team will fly out to the facility, seeking clarification on the course of events and the triggering/underlying causes.
