STAINES, UK – Polarcus has started a 400-sq km (154-sq mi) Broadband 3D seismic survey over Fairfield Energy’s block 43/28 in the UK southern North Sea. The area was awarded under Britain’s recent 27th Licensing Round.
Fairfield Cedrus is operator with a 50% interest, in partnership with Third Energy subsidiary Viking UK.
The program is part of a large broadband multi-client survey of up to 2,000 sq km (772 sq mi), Polarcus RightPlan, which the Polarcus Nadia is acquiring.
It was instigated and designed in conjunction with GeoPartners and Fairfield, and employs Sentinel solid streamers towed at 12 m (39 ft) depth and GXT’s WiBand processing technology to deliver an improved broadband image. Previously 43/28 and nearby part blocks had only been appraised using existing 2D data.
The new 3D volume is expected to be ready this fall, to allow the partners to better evaluate structural Carboniferous and stratigraphic Permian exploration plays previously identified.
