ABERDEEN, UK – The semisubmersible Transocean Arctic has spudded the Rodriguez exploration well (6407/1-6S) in the Norwegian Sea for operator Wintershall.

The prospect is in 291 m (955 ft) water depth in license PL475 on the Halten Terrace, 4 km (2.5 mi) northeast of the Tyrihans field and 8 km (4.9 mi) southeast of the 2010 Maria discovery.

According to partner Faroe Petroleum, the main aim is to test for oil in mid-Jurassic sandstones of the Garn, Ile, and Tilje formations. Drilling is expected to last about 75 days.
