Songa Mercur rig heads to Cuba

Offshore staff

LIMASSOL, Cyprus – Songa Offshore’s drilling rig Songa Mercur left its recent base in Trinidad last week to begin mobilization to Cuban waters.

It is currently undergoing preparations to start its exploration drilling contract for Zarubezhneft.

Songa Offshore has agreed to sell the ultra-deepwater semisubmersible Songa Eclipse to Seadrill for net sale proceeds of $590 million. Delivery is expected to take place in December.

The rig was delivered by Jurong Shipyard in Singapore last year, and currently operates for Total offshore Angola on a contract due to end in December 2013. Total has three one-year options for extending the contract.
