WELLINGTON, New Zealand – Three offshore exploration blocks may be included in the 2013 permitting round offshore New Zealand. Permit awards are expected in December 2013.

The three offshore blocks would be in the Taranaki basin areas of Reinga-Northland, Taranaki, and Great South-Canterbury, the government says.

This will be the second year of “block offer” tendering. Companies can bid on up to 3,861 sq mi (10,000 sq km) in onshore frontier areas and 965 sq mi (2,500 sq km) offshore Taranaki basin.
