Lukoil extends acreage offshore Sierra Leone

MOSCOW – Lukoil has taken a 25% stake in the SL-4B-10 block offshore Sierra Leone from operator Talisman Energy. Other partners are Petronas and Prontinal.

The concession covers 2,200 sq km (849 sq mi) in water depths ranging from 100-3,000 m (328-9,842 ft). It adjoins the Lukoil-operated SL-05-11 block.

Currently the drillship Stena Drillmax is drilling a well on the Djembe prospect.

A framework agreement for SL-4B-10 was signed in 2003. The first phase, completed in 2009, comprised 2D and 3D seismic surveys, which revealed several potential pay zones.

A shallow-water well on the block encountered oil shows at the Albian-Cenomanian level.
