Technip secures welding services for Scottish spoolbase

Offshore staff

EVANTON, UK – Vallourec Group welding subsidiary Serimax has signed a three-year frame agreement to assist Technip’s UK spoolbase in northeast Scotland.

The scope of work comprises specialist welding services, pipe management, pipe handling, welding equipment, pipe inspection, field joint coating, hydro testing, and general fabrication services.

There is an option for a two-year extension to the contract.

Technip’s spoolbase on the Cromarty Firth is one of five the group operates worldwide, and is used for fabrication and spooling of rigid pipe onto vessels with reel-lay capabilities.

Serimax will deploy its automatic welding equipment, developed in-house at the company’s R&D department in Mitry Mory, near Paris.

During a recent project for Technip the spoolbase reported zero failures from 4,500 welds completed, Serimax claims.
