STOCKHOLM, Sweden – The jackup West Courageous has spudded Lundin Petroleum’s Merawan Batu-1 exploration well in block PM308B, offshore eastern Peninsula Malaysia.

The well is targeting hydrocarbons in Oligocene sands in a faulted anticline in an undrilled area 50 km (31 mi) west of last year’s Janglau oil discovery.

It will be drilled vertically to a depth of 3,584 m (11,758 ft) in about 60 m (197 ft) of water.
