CALGARY, Canada – Nexen says seven wells are now onstream at the deepwater Usan field offshore Nigeria, which entered production in February.
Two more wells are expected to come online later this year. Production is averaging 100,000-110,000 b/d of oil.
Earlier this month, the partners spudded an exploration well at Owowo West on Nigerian offshore block OPL-223, close to the Owowo South B oil discovery. The latest well should reach its target depth this fall.
In the UK central North Sea, production at the Nexen-operated Buzzard complex will be shut down for several weeks from early September during a major inspection and turnaround program. Full rates should be re-established by mid-October.
The company is testing a successful appraisal well in the Northern Terrace area of the Buzzard field. It will likely be side tracked to determine the size of the resource.
The company also plans downtime on the Scott platform this summer to prepare for tie-in of the Rochelle development facilities, and to complete regular platform maintenance. Rochelle is expected to be onstream around the end of the year.
Nexen’s Golden Eagle development continues to progress toward first oil in late 2014. Fabrication of the platform facilities is advancing, currently on time and on budget.
West of Shetland, the company is a partner in the current BP-operate North Uist exploration well, where results are expected in the current quarter.
