SINGAPORE – Sembcorp Marine subsidiary PPL Shipyard has a $213-million contract to build a Pacific Class 400 jackup which will operate in the Middle East.
This is a proprietary design of PPL, capable of operating in water depths of 400 ft (122 m) and drilling to depths of 35,000 ft (10,668 m). Facilities include single- and double-room accommodation for 150 personnel with full hostelry services.
The rig should be delivered to Safin Gulf in November.
Raimonds Namikis, EVP of Safin Gulf, said his company was “undergoing dynamic development with strategic focus in exploring and investing in new markets and opportunities. We see the development of the offshore business as one of such business opportunities…we are confident that Safin Gulf would be able to expand its offshore fleet and presence in the Middle East.”
