Bureau Veritas broadens Russian Arctic co-operations

Offshore staff

PARIS – Bureau Veritas (BV) is extending its partnerships in the Russian offshore and shipping sector, with a focus on High Arctic offshore projects.

The company is working with the Russian Register to provide a basic design review for the planned Shtokman floating production platform in the Barents Sea for the two tendering consortia: Saipem, Samsung and Sofec (SSS); and Aker, Technip and SBM (ATS).

The partnership has been working on a design and documentation review, and the performance of thermal, linear and non-linear hydrodynamic and structural calculations using BV’s VeriSTAR Hull software.

BV’s offshore rules have been translated into Russian, and co-operations have been formed with the Russian Register and the University of St. Petersburg.

BV has also provided services to other Russian projects that include independent verification to provide assurance of design integrity at the FEED stage for disconnectable floating production platforms, the offshore trunk pipeline, and subsea production systems.

And BV has a three-year co-operation agreement with the Russian Maritime Register of Shipping covering development of joint guidelines for LNG carriers and offshore Floating Production Units (FPUs).

In the case of the FPUs, the guidelines will take into account feedback from work to date on Shtokman.

Finally, BV has teamed up with the State Maritime University of St. Petersburg to develop IceSTAR, an industrial software tool for modelling ice loads and their effects on structures, which could include offshore floaters in heavy ice conditions.
