Joint Faroe/Shetland basin 3D seismic survey under way

Offshore staff

ASKER, Norway – TGS has started a new multi-client 3D survey in the Faroe-Shetland basin, in partnership with PGS.

The survey covers 2,500 sq km (965 sq mi) west of the UK over offshore quads 6004, 204, and 205.

The PGS Ramform Viking is acquiring the data, towing 12 x 6,000 m (19,685-ft) streamers with 75-m (246-ft) separation, and employing PGS' GeoStreamer technology.

Acquisition will continue through 3Q 2011, with the vessel returning to the area next year to complete the survey.

TGS and PGS will jointly handle data processing.

"This is TGS' first investment in a 3D multi-client seismic program west of the British Isles, located in an area with a number of discoveries and further undiscovered hydrocarbon potential," said Kjell Trommestad, SVP Europe & Russia for TGS.
