Qatar contractor purchases ENSCO jackup

DOHA, Qatar – Gulf Drilling International (GDI) has acquired the ENSCO-95 jackup from ENSCO Offshore International.

This is a three-legged Hitachi cantilevered drilling rig rated for 250 ft (76 m) water depth.

GDI will commission a full special survey before putting the rig into service in order to obtain a new Class certificate. This will necessitate a three-four month shipyard stay for a major refurbishment will be done.

The rig will be deployed in Qatari waters on delivery.

In 2005 GDI acquired another jackup from ENSCO, that rig since re-named Al-Rayyan.
