BMT to monitor CLOV hybrid risers

Offshore staff

LONDON – BMT Scientific Marine Services is to provide riser monitoring systems for Total’s deepwater CLOV project offshore Angola.

The contract, awarded by Subsea 7, relates to two hybrid riser towers and one single hybrid riser.

BMT’s systems will monitor the integrity of the risers by measuring the buoyancy uplift and bending fatigue, and the risers’ motions and set-down induced by lateral excursions.

Each system will incorporate a subsea strain sensor assembly; subsea data acquisition, motion, and depth modules; and a rack-mounted display with BMT’s WinMon software. Data transmission will be effected via a hard-wired link to the CLOV FPSO. The equipment will be designed for 21 years service subsea.

BMT also is providing a riser tower monitoring system to Saipem for two single leg offset risers offshore West Africa, and an integrity monitoring system for four risers in the Total’s Usan field development off Nigeria.
