ROME – Transocean’s jackup GSF Key Manhattan has started development drilling on the Guendalina gas field development, 47 km (29 mi) off northeast Italy.

Eni operates the project in concession AC 35 AG, in partnership with Mediterranean Oil and Gas (MOG). Installation of the platform jacket, in 42 m (138 ft) water depth, was completed in March.

GSF Key Manhattan is drilling the Guendalina 2D and Guendalina 3 wells in parallel, via the `skid drilling’ technique.

According to MOG, the planned TD is 3,290 m (10,794 ft) for Guendalina 2D, and 3,190 m (10,466 ft) for Guendalina 3. Pliocene gas sand levels should be encountered from around 3,000 m (9,842 ft).

Drilling should be completed by end-July, and will be followed by installation of the platform deck. First gas is due in September.

ENI estimates production will reach around 20 MMcf/d.
