Andritz announces orders to supply equipment for hydro plants in Norway, Congo

New plant, rehab

Andritz Hydro announced it has received orders to supply equipment for the new 86-MW Nedre Otta hydro plant in Norway and for rehabilitation of the 71-MW Mwadingusha hydroelectric facility in the Democratic Republic of Congo.

Nedre Otta is a run-of-river plant being built by Eidsiva Vannkraft AS in Oppland.

Andritz will design, manufacture and deliver two vertical Kaplan turbines, generators, governors, main inlet valves, and mechanical auxiliaries, as well as provide installation, supervision and commissioning.

In September 2016, HydroWorld reported that Skanska had received a US$81 million contract to build Nedre Otta. The facility is anticipated to be complete in spring 2020 and will produce 315 GWh of electricity annually.

Mwadingusha, on the Lufira River in the Katanga Province, was initially commissioned in 1928. It is owned by Societe Nationale d’Electricite.

Andritz will replace four turbine units, generators, governors, inlet valves, exciters, voltage regulation, and draft tube stoplogs. They will provide dismantling, erection and commissioning. The new units are expected to have output nearly 10% greater than the previous units.

In total, this facility has six turbine-generator units. HydroWorld reported in September 2016 that the first of six upgraded and rehabilitated units had begun producing electricity.
