TSGENCO new hydro

Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL) announced it has commissioned the first of four units at the 120-MW Pulichinthala hydroelectric project in India.

The greenfield project, on the Krishna River in Guntur district of Telangana State, is being developed by Telangana State Power Generation Corporation Limited (TSGENCO).

BHEL is designing, manufacturing, supplying and supervising erection, testing and commissioning of an electrical and mechanical package for the project that consists of four 30-MW vertical Kaplan turbines and generators, along with associated auxiliaries.

TSGENCO operates nine hydro projects with a total capacity of 2,081.76 MW, according to its website.

BHEL says it has commissioned 983 MW of hydropower in Telangana State to date. These include 500-MW Nagarjuna Sagar and 300-MW Srisailam Left Bank.

HydroWorld.com reported in October that BHEL received a contract to renovate and modernize the 360-Balimela hydro plant in Odisha State in India.
