LIHI names Ames new executive director

LIHI new director

Effective Oct. 1, Shannon Ames became the new executive director of the Low Impact Hydropower Institute (LIHI).

Ames has taken over the role previously filled by Dr. Michael Sale, who will stay on in a technical advisory role to help manage LIHI’s certification program for a transitionary period.

John Seebach, LIHI Governing Board chair, says this was a planned transition in the LIHI leadership.

Ames formerly worked for Brookfield Renewable Energy Group for six years and before that with the Massachusetts Joint Committee on Environment, Natural Resources and Agriculture. She has a master’s in business administration from Boston University and a bachelor of arts degree from Colby College.

“Bringing together my great respect for hydropower generation with my commitment to environmental protection is an amazing opportunity,” Ames says. “I look forward to working with the NGO community and hydropower professionals to provide value to our certificate holders.”

LIHI is a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization dedicated to reducing the impacts of hydropower generation through the certification of hydropower projects that have avoided or reduced their environmental impacts pursuant to the institute’s criteria.
